In about three weeks, Microsoft will be ending support for the final version of the Windows Server 2008/R2 operating system. A true milestone for the tech world, Windows Server 2008 has been around since the 6th of May 2008. Lots has changed since 2008, including four newer versions of Windows Server since it’s release. This version of Windows Server 2008 only applies to Microsoft Azure users. On premise users who opted-in for the paid Extended Security Updates program lost Microsoft Support on January 10th, 2023. Most consumers lost Microsoft Support back on January 14th, 2020. The next edition of Windows Server that is currently supported is Windows Server 2016. Users are urged to upgrade there servers before this deadline to avoid security issues within there network infrastructure.
